Swiss Classical Jazz Trio to perform on Okinawa

Johann Bourquenez proves that it’s possible to play piano in many ways to create first class jazz..

The classical trio line up is revisited from top to bottom, free from any stylistic constraint. The band’s music, entirely acoustic since double-bassist Vincent Ruiz joined early 2012, is constantly evolving. One could find varied influences such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass, The Necks, Craig Taborn, Matthew Shipp, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Nizar Rohana, Berlioz, Squarepusher, Plastikman, Mad Professor, and Scorn.

Cyril Bondi is playing the drums.

Formed in 2007 in Geneva, Plaistow –the band’s name was inspired by a composition of Squarepusher– has since given more than a hundred concerts in Switzerland, France, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Germany, Morocco, and in the Middle East. The trio earlier this spring released their eighth record. After a long collaboration with various net labels, primarily Insubordinations, the last album, Citadelle, was released in April by the Swiss label Two Gentlemen.

Plaistow is a jazz trio still making Switzerland its base, and attracts attention as a post jazz band extending activity in every corner of the earth. The trio offers performances more freely reconstructed to the restrictions by the form of old jazz, always continues evolving, and is searching for the jazz of new feeling.

The trio has taken in positively the method of a new generation’s dispatch, such as mainly distributing the music on the Internet by cooperation with a net label and Insubordinations for nothing, via the website. Deployment is very attractive for this kind of sound system, a piano trio’s fan, such as strained improvisation in which pure air is impressed, a melody with the higher degree of abstraction, strange rhythm, minimal deployment, will continue.
