Mamiko Higa wins Yamaha Ladies’ Golf Tournament
Okinawa keeps producing champion-class women golfers. Mamiko Higa, an only 19-year-old Okinawan pro-golfer won her first title as she beat the rest of the field at the Yamaha Ladies’ Tournament in Shizuoka last weekend.
Higa turned pro two years ago as the sixth youngest on record in Japan. She was five strokes behind entering the last day, and shot four under on the final day, placing herself even with two other players, Kaori Oe and Teresa Lu.
Higa then beat the two in the ensuing play-off when she shot a birdie on the second hole of the play- off, while the other two finalists had pars.
Higa is from Motobu Town in the northern part of Okinawa, and a graduate of Motobu High School.
